Alavert (loratadine) is an antihistamine prescribed for the treatment of chronic skin reactions and symptoms of allergies, including watery eyes, runny nose, itching and sneezing. If you have liver or kidney disease you may not be able to take this medicine. Talk to your doctor about dose adjustment or an alternative drug. This medicine is not intended for children younger than 6 unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor. Do not start taking this medicine if you are allergic to loratadine or desloratadine. Unless otherwise recommended by your doctor take this drug once a day on the same time. This medicine is not expected to be harmful to an unborn baby but it can pass into breast milk. Do not start breastfeeding before talking to your doctor if you are currently taking Alavert. The tablet should not be chewed or crushed unless it’s an orally disintegrating form. Swallow it whole and wash down with a full glass of water. If you have been prescribed the liquid form of this medicine get a special measuring spoon to make sure the dose is accurate. Alavert side effects include headache, nervousness, drowsiness, diarrhea, stomach pain, blurred vision, skin rash, eye redness and dry mouth. If you have any of the following serious side effects stop taking this drug and contact your doctor right away: jaundice, fast or uneven heart rate or seizures. |
